ABOUT IMMANUEL

 HOW OUR DENOMINATION FORMED

Since the forming of Immanuel Reformed Church in 1880, the denomination has merged with other churches over the decades. In June 1934, the Evangelical Synod united with the Reformed churches to become the Evangelical and Reformed Church.  In June 1957, the E&R churches and the Congregational Christian churches merged to form the United Church of Christ.  At that time two million members joined hands around the country.

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action.  The UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.  The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).
